George Johnston Museum - BCS

George Johnston Museum

Programs and Interpretation Training Manual, Operations and Procedures Manual, Training in Interpretive Skills – Yukon - 2019

The George Johnston Museum was in need of a training manual for their programs, a manual of operations and procedures, a signature guided tour and training in interpretive skills.

As a start, I delivered a training workshop in interpretive skills and program development to the staff.  This served them as a basis for developing the tour.

I worked in collaboration with the museum’s staff to develop the tour, part of the Programs and Interpretation Training Manual and several aspects of the Operations Manual.

I found that mentoring the staff in developing the tour and components of the manuals gave them a sense of ownership and benefited the museum in terms of building-capacity, professionalism and sense of pride.

Old Log Church Museum

Interpretive Plan for New Permanent Exhibition – Yukon – Ongoing since June 2020.

The museum set out to renew their permanent exhibition that was old, static and not inclusive of the voices and perspectives of First Nations about the story of Anglican Church in Yukon.

Through a collaborative approach with the museum team, I develop a complete interpretive plan for the permanent exhibition. The project’s scope included a market analysis and segmentation, surveys and consultations with various audiences, a design thinking workshop with multidisciplinary professionals, a thematic framework as well as identifying the media, artefacts and multimedia, and defining the visitor experience.

The project is multi-year, for which I also elaborated an action plan and a budget, and identified sources of funding. We are now wrapping Phase 1, and are ready to move into our next phase; the recordings and writing of stories.
